I Said We Sad Today is a reaction image macro meme of a man with a clenched mouth invading another's personal space. It is frequently used with the chyron "I said we sad today," personifying the memer's brain as it forces an emotion upon the person.

Origin

On November 18th, 2015, Instagram user @renny shared the video "Jealous Boyfriends Be Like." In the video, a man says "Bless you" to another man's sneezing girlfriend. The boyfriend stands up and begins threatening the man with his physicality, shouting "She's blessed already" in his ear. The post received more than 111,000 likes in less than six years (shown below).

On October 3rd, 2016, Twitter ^[1] user @Joshuacole__ tweeted the photo with the caption, "Parents: If Jimmy has 5 apples and eats two how many apples does he have? Me: 4 Parents: I SAID IF JIMMY HAS 5 APPLES." The tweet received more than 21,000 retweets and 18,000 likes in less than five years (shown below, left).

Three years later, on June 6th, 2019, Twitter^[2] user @curledbitch tweeted, "my brain: we’re gonna be sad today me: why?" In the image, the user included the chyron, "I said we sad today." The tweet received more than 52,000 likes and 31,000 retweets in less than two years (shown below, center). This version of the meme became the most popular variation.

The following year, on April 5th, 2020, Redditor Nasu03 posted the @curledbitch meme in the /r/2meirl4meirl,^[3] receiving 880 points (97% upvoted) in less than one year.

Later that year, on October 20th, Redditor FacefullVoid shared a variation in the /r/dankmemes ^[4] that features the caption, "White girls: this joke is extremely offensive to the minorities, this is so sad for us!" The image is a reaction to "Minorities" responding to "white girls." The post received more than 72,000 points (89% upvoted) and 1,000 comments in less than three months (shown below, right).
