Ice Spice's Satanic Hand Gestures and Upside-Down Cross at Super Bowl LVIII refers to conspiracy theories that rapper Ice Spice was purposely flashing supposed satanic hand signs and wearing an upside-down cross necklace at Super Bowl LVIII in mid-February 2024 whenever the camera switched to her sitting next to Taylor Swift. The theories began spreading online the day of the Super Bowl, gaining wider spread over the following days. It was also noted that Ice Spice was wearing Balenciaga, a fashion brand that has also been the subject of conspiracy theories and controversies.

Origin

On February 11th, 2024, Super Bowl LVIII took place. During the game, rapper Ice Spice was seen several times sitting next to Taylor Swift. That night, X^[1] user @Yolo304741 posted a clip of Ice Spice doing the "devil horns" sign with her hands, a sign often used during rock and metal concerts while wearing a necklace that appears to be an upside-down cross and a Balenciaga jacket. The user writes, "Nothing to see here, just Taylor Swifts guest Ice Spice throwing up demonic signs while wearing a upside down cross making sure the world sees it on the big screen. DEMONS." The post gained over 20,000 likes and 6,400 reposts in three days (shown below).

Spread

The theories continued to spread over the following days on sites including X and TikTok, also gaining media coverage.

On February 11th, 2024, X^[2] user @DrewHLive quote-reposted the video, writing, "Taylor Swift enjoying herself at the Super Bowl pounding beers with Satanists," garnering over 2,500 likes in three days. On the same day, X^[3] user and Fox News producer @kylenabecker reposted it, writing, "Here’s something you don’t usually see at the Super Bowl: Demon summoning," garnering over 26,000 likes in the same span of time. X^[4] user @FearedBuck also reposted it that night, writing, "Ice Spice throwing up devil signs, while wearing her Balenciaga & Upside down cross at the Super Bowl," garnering over 26,000 likes in three days (shown below, left and right).

On February 12th, Rolling Stone^[5] reported on the theories. That day, TMZ^[6] published an article reporting that Ice Spice was gifted the upside-down cross necklace by rapper Playboi Carti, claiming the piece was designed by jeweler Alex Moss and has no known ties to satanism.

On the same day, TikToker^[7] @matcrackz posted a video in which he expresses concerns over Ice Spice's necklace and the hand signs, suggesting they might be satanic, garnering over 17 million views in two days (shown below, left). On February 13th, 2024, TikToker^[8] @evileyes1111 posted an edit of the clip in which the added sounds of a crowd booing are played when Ice Spice throws up the hand sign, garnering over 12 million views in a day (shown below, right).
