Jake Bit By Spider / Screaming Jake refers to a series memes based on a scene from the American animated television series Adventure Time in which a spider bites the character Jake, who opens his mouth to scream but does not make a sound. The scene inspired a series of YouTube remixes and a reaction image.

Origin

On December 12th, 2011, the episode of Adventure Time "Marceline's Closet" aired in the United States.[1] In the episode, a spider bites Jake (voiced by John DiMaggio), who screams in pain silently.

Three days later, on December 15th, 2011, YouTuber QuackAttackIsBackJak posted a clip of the scene. The post received more than 53,000 views in seven years (shown below).

Video Series

Shortly after the episode aired, people began editing the scene, adding an audible scream. On August 30th, 2012, YouTuber Owen Fishback posted an edited version. The post received more than 11,000 views in six years (shown below, left).

The following year, April 2nd, 2013, YouTuber Alex Gerges remixed the video to feature the scream of the cartoon character SpongeBob SquarePants. The post received more than 47,000 views in five and a half years (shown below, right).

On February 3rd, 2014, Imgur [2] user Tipsyrooster posted the image as a reaction image. The post received more than 50 points in less than five years (shown below).

Four years later, on August 31st, 2018, Redditor [3] Sandwichsamurai24 posted a motion-blurred version of the image of Jake screaming. The post received more than 2,400 points (97% upvoted) and 130 comments in three months (shown below, left).

Later that year, on December 16th, Redditor[4] Dollon_da_God posted the image with the caption "1999 niggas when they came home from school and their Tamagotchi was dead." The post received more than 61,000 views (94% upvoted) and 440 comments in 24 hours (shown below, center). Over the next 24 hours, Redditors continued to post images of the motion-blurred Jake (example below, right).
