About
Junko Furuta Charlie Kirk Retaliation Memes refers to a series of ragebait memes that make fun of Junko Furuta, a Japanese teen who was infamously tortured and murdered in the 1980s, largely as a response to people who post memes making fun of Charlie Kirk's death with the Kirkification meme trend. The memes are meant to enrage people who make Kirk memes and expose their hypocrisy over being unable to laugh at Furuta's death.
The trend began as early as November 5th, 2025, and became increasingly popularized on sites like X / Twitter and TikTok over the following weeks, resulting in numerous memes and discussions online. Some argued that Furuta's death is not equal to Kirk's due to her age and the manner in which she was tortured to death, while others claimed that the memes expose hypocrisy in people who see no issue with Kirkification, mostly painted as being liberals.
Origin
Junko Furuta's Murder
Junko Furuta was a 17-year-old Japanese high school student born in 1971 and declared dead in January 1989. In November 1988, Furuta was kicked off her bicycle by a teenager, Minato, at the behest of another teen, Miyano. These boys had become involved with the Yakuza. Miyano approached the downed Furuta, pretending to witness the attack and help her. He then led her to a warehouse and threatened to kill her if she didn't do what he said.
Furuta was held captive for around 40 days in various locations by the Yakuza, during which she was repeatedly raped and tortured, largely by four teens in the Yakuza. They killed her after the torture became so severe that she was unable to move, placing her body in a concrete-filled drum.[1]
It is thought by some that Furuta was targeted after Miyano had previously asked Furuta out and was rejected. This detail, however, has been refuted as misinformation and is unconfirmed, with Japanese court documents reportedly claiming that Furuta did not know her killers beforehand.[2][3]
