Penis Shadow refers to a series of memes based on a 3D image of an elven woman with a shadow of large penis falling onto her face, as well as other similar images. Online, memes imagining which objects could cast the shadow have been circulated.

Origin

On February 8th, 2018, Tumblr^[1] user yuih-skyrim posted a 3D image of an elven woman, referred by the author as Bikini Elf, looking up at a large penis, with its shadow being cast onto her face (cropped image shown below).

On April 8th, 2018, Tharja's House Of Booty & Life Insurance Facebook^[2] group posted the first known meme based on the image, imagining that the shadow on the woman's face is being cast by the White-Gold Tower of the Imperial City (as it appears in The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion) (shown below). The post received over 800 reactions and 580 shares, with a share to Nirnposting Facebook^[3] group receiving additional 340 reactions.

In the following months, the meme was widely circulated online, with posts on Twitter and Reddit. For example, April 14th, 2018, repost by Twitter^[4] user @Peterquill47 received over 40 likes. An October 6th, 2018, repost by Twitter^[5] user @BITKRVUSHER received over 90 retweets and 240 likes. On June 5th, the earliest known derivative meme, based on Monster Hunter: World, was posted on 9GAG,^[6] where it gained over 1,400 points (shown below).

On August 29th, 2018, the original image was posted in an /h/^[7] thread on 4chan, with two users posting drawings of how the person casting the shadow had to position themselves (shown below, left and right).^[8][9]

On January 11th, 2020, Twitter^[10] user @DatingSims reposted the 2018 /h/ posts, with the tweet accumulating over 2,300 retweets and 9,300 likes in one week. The post prompted a surge in the popularity of the meme in the following days.
