Katt Williams Shannon Sharpe Interview refers to a viral video and interview in which comedian Katt Williams appeared on the Club Shay Shay podcast hosted by former football player and sports commentator Shannon Sharpe in early January 2024. The long-form interview, which delved into many facets of Katt's career and of comedy as a whole, went viral overnight as several clips of Katt talking about other famous comedians began to circulate on social media, some of which also became used in memes.

Origin

On January 3rd, 2024, the podcast episode was released on the official YouTube channel for Club Shay Shay,^[1] titled "Katt Williams Unleashed" as it was meant to be an all-encompassing interview comprised of Katt's early days, the Kings of Comedy and current trends in the comedy world. The episode quickly went viral as it reached over 5 million views in 24 hours and gained over 275,000 likes with multiple shorts and clips being produced by it (shown below).

Several moments from the interview went viral on YouTube, TikTok and X, with reactions and memes coming in different forms. Due to Katt Williams directly name-dropping several other famous comedians, musicians and stars, many of the reactions came from those celebrities who were mentioned during the discussion with Sharpe.

For example, on January 3rd, 2024, a clip from the interview with Katt talking about fellow comedian Michael Blackson was posted on X by user @Phil_Lewis_^[2] (deputy editor of Huff Post), where it reached over 3.6 million views and 53,000 likes in one day and prompted a response from Blackson's personal account^[3] (shown below).

After the interview was released, one of the biggest moments to go viral revolved around Steve Harvey, who has been mentioned by Katt multiple times in his career. On January 3rd, TikToker @emjunair^[4] uploaded an edited portion of the interview in which Katt was talking about Harvey and how he transitioned out of comedy, accumulating over 337,000 likes and 5,800 comments in one day (shown below, left).

Later that day, TikToker @blee2g^[5] uploaded another point of the interview in which Katt calls Steve Harvey out, saying that he lied about his reason for quitting comedy, relating back to a comedy battle that took place decades prior, with the TikTok also supplying footage from the comedy event when Katt was mocking Harvey (shown below, right). The video received over 17,800 likes and 300 comments in 18 hours.

Various portions of the interview were also used in memes after its release. For example, on January 4th, 2024, TikToker @pagan1992 posted a meme using a green-screen template of the interview with a caption about an employee speaking to their boss at work, receiving over 3,000 likes in eight hours (seen below).

Reaction memes to the interview also appeared as it spread online. On January 4th, Twitter / X user @LowkeyBrilliant posted a clip from Friday After Next of their reaction to watching the interview, accumulating over 131,000 views, 3,400 likes and 1,100 retweets in six hours (shown below).
