Conflicted Steve Harvey refers to a popular reaction image featuring two images of television host Steve Harvey super-imposed onto each other. One image shows Harvey laughing, and the other of him looking worried or distressed. The image is paired with captions in which one may laugh but simultaneously feels anxiety.

Origin

The earliest known post to use the image was posted to Tumblr on January 15th, 2016, by user kingarthurofgeek.^[1] The post gained over 38,000 notes (shown below).

Spread

As the image grew more popular, the format changed from the original image macro iteration posted by kingarthurofgeek and became used more commonly used as a reaction image paired with captions. For example, a post to Imgur from April 21st, 2016 used it in that way (shown below, left). Another posted to MemeCenter^[2] in May of that year also followed that format (shown below, right).

Other popular examples of the meme include a post to /r/dankmemes on May 11th, 2017 referencing a recent trend of God Left memes, gaining over 570 upvotes (shown below, left). Another posted March 7th, 2018 gained over 480 upvotes (shown below, right).
