Kek or Cringe refers to a series of ironic memes in which various fictional characters host a show called "Kek or Cringe" where they rate memes as "kek" or "cringe". The format originated on iFunny in March 2019 and was later spread by ironic meme pages on Twitter, Instagram and Reddit.
On March 18th, 2019, iFunny user Mobian posted a multi-panel meme in which No Country for Old Man character Anton Chigurh reviewed two memes and decided the fate of those who submitted them based deeming their images "kek" or "cringe". The post gained over 3,900 likes in two months.
In the following weeks, Mobian and other iFunny users posted more memes utilizing the format.
On April 14th, 2019, Ifunny user PoliceCommander made a video version of the meme, voicing the characters.
On May 7th, 2019, Twitter user @glueyouback tweeted a video narration of Mobian's Kek or Cringe meme voiced by iFunny user baking, gaining over 2,100 retweets and 5,200 likes in ten days (shown below).
In the following days, multiple iFunny videos following the format were reposted on Twitter, Instagram and other platforms.
