Kirby With A Knife refers to an image of a plush doll of the Nintendo character Kirby holding a knife.

Origin

On June 6th, 2018, iFunny^[7] user ZERO posted the image of the Kirby plush doll holding a knife with the caption "This guy has been standing outside my place for the past 30 minutes. I've called the police but they haven't showed up."

Spread

The earliest known usage of the image of Kirby holding the knife was posted by Twitter^[6] user @lizardladie on June 8th, 2018. That day, they tweeted the image with the caption "APOLOGIZE MOM!!!!!!" The post was made in reference to a Twitter thread about drag queen and RuPaul's Drag Race contestant Trixie Mattel (shown below).

On June 10th, 2018, Redditor^[1] user Dockirby uploaded an image to /r/photoshopbattles of a plush Kirby holding a common household kitchen knife. Over the next seven months, the post received more than 20 upvotes (92% upvoted) (shown below, left).

On the same day, Redditor Its-a-me-yo-daddy posted their own take on the format in the comment section of Dockirby's image (shown below, right).^[1]

On June 15th, Tumblr^[4] user puffnet drew the star warrior saying "Frickles," which attained 420 notes (shown below, left). On July 3rd, 2018, Tumblr^[5] user kikosuu created artwork of Kirby standing at a doorway holding a knife with subtitles that read, "Oh God, he's outside," receiving 28,000 notes (shown below, right).

On July 31st, 2018, Redditor Monikas_Comin submitted a photo to /r/Animemes with a side by side
comparison of Ochaco Uraraka from My Hero Academia against the pink puffball, with the title difference?, which gained over 2,200 upvotes and 30 comments (shown below).^[2]

On November 1st, 2018, Twitter user @Kiburuzu created their image format that features Kirby in the campaign mode of World of Light for Super Smash Bros. Ultimate. The post has gained over 18,000 retweets and 51,000 likes (shown below).^[3]
