About

Loomis' National Anthem refers to a performance of "The Star-Spangled Banner" by indie singer Loomis at the Free & Equal 2024 Presidential Debate that was widely criticized and mocked for the singer's swearing and panicking after failing some of the notes while performing the song. After the performance in late October 2024, the viral video of the moment was widely reported on and spread online, as well as inspiring memes and other reactions.

Origin

On October 25th, 2024, the indie singer Loomis performed the American National Anthem at the Free & Equal Elections Foundation presidential debate featuring third-party candidates in the 2024 U.S. Presidential Election. Although she successfully belts the first few lines of the song, Loomis appears rattled once she gets to a higher note and her voice cracks out of pitch, which prompts her to swear and ask for the production team another chance to sing the anthem, even though the debate was being livestreamed.

The YouTube[1] channel @HowardMortman uploaded the moment in which the singer failed to perform “The Star Spangled Banner” anthem, which amassed over 17,000 views and 210 likes in a day.

Spread

Social media users almost immediately joked about the performance as it spread shortly after it was aired. For example, on October 25th, 2024, X[2] user @SgtWRC posted Loomis' National Anthem performance, writing that it's a new contender for "Worst Rendition of the National Anthem Ever." The tweet (seen below) amassed more than 420 likes and 120 reposts in a day.

Paul Klein @SgtWRC There's a new contender for "Worst Rendition of the National Anthem Ever." Don't think I've heard someone say "I f**ck*d it up" twice during the anthem, but I could be wrong. Loomis at the Free & Equal 2024 Presidential Debate. Thank you @CSPAN. #freeandequal 0:34 4:54 AM Oct 25, 2024 124.7K Views REE& QUAL FREE EQUAL

On the same day, TikTok[3] user @theonlycb3 posted a parody skit video mocking Loomis' performance (seen below), which received roughly 425,000 plays and 59,000 likes in a day.
