Mac's "Through God, All Things Are Possible", otherwise known as Well, First Of All, With God, All Things Are Possible, So Jot That Down, is an exploitable image macro using a quote from the character Mac from It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. The image is typically used as a reaction image, in response to claims that something is impossible or outlandish.

Origin

The original quote is taken from season eight, episode five of Always Sunny, titled "The Gang Gets Analyzed," which first aired on November 8th, 2012. In the episode, Mac, a devout Christian, sees a therapist and tells her that he gained and lost 60 pounds in three months. The therapist is surprised and dubious, calling that "almost impossible," to which Mac responds with the quote, "Well, first of all, through God all things are possible, so jot that down."



Mac's remark is a paraphrase of the Gospel of Matthew (chapter 19, verse 26), which reads "But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible"[1] in the King James version.

The earliest recorded use of the quote and image as a reaction was the Twitter[2] account @themeredith, who tweeted an example of the meme (below) on April 5th, 2017. The tweet received 24 likes and 73 likes in four years but was widely copied and circulated, with a screenshot of the tweet receiving over 1,000 upvotes in four years on Imgur.[3]

Within an hour of the earliest tweet on April 5th, 2017, an altered version of the joke (below) was tweeted by the account @girlposts (now ComedyPosts).[4] The tweet was far more successful than the original, receiving more than 200 retweets and 300 likes over a year. @girlposts was suspended in 2018 for stealing and altering content from other tweets without any credit.[5]
