About
Man I Wish I Was More Like That Guy or I'm Especially Glad I'm Not That Guy is a webcomic originally drawn by artist @jakelikesonions. The comic shows a bald man envying a man in a suit and then soothing himself by saying that the feeling may be mutual, only for it to be revealed that the man in the suit loves being himself and especially loves not being the bald man. The webcomic was turned into an exploitable meme after it was first published in October 2018, spreading over subsequent years via object-labeling variations.
Origin
On October 27th, 2018, artist Jake Thompson posted a four-panel comic to his Instagram[1] @jakelikesonions showing a bald-headed character looking at a man in a suit and thinking, "Man I wish I was more like that guy," and then back peddling saying, "But he probably wishes he was more like somebody else too." The next panel shows the man in the suit thinking, "Holy shit I'm glad I'm me, and I'm especially glad I'm not that guy."
The comic gathered over 100,000 likes in the six years since it has been posted on Instagram and gathered over 24,000 upvotes on the /r/me_irl[2] subreddit, where it was reposted on the same day (seen below).
