Mark Johnson is a broadcaster on Idaho's KTVB who became the subject of jokes and memes on Twitter in late April 2021 after the account for the station tweeted his name and a link to his bio without any context.
Origin
On April 20th, 2021, the Twitter account for KTVB[1] simply tweeted "Mark Johnson" and a link to their broadcaster Mark Johnson's bio. The tweet gained over 2,400 retweets and 14,000 likes in about 15 hours (shown below).
Spread
The contextless link to Johnson's bio amused Twitter users, who began to meme "Mark Johnson" as a catchphrase a la They Did Surgery On A Grape. Quickly, Twitter users began using "Mark Johnson" in popular meme templates.
For example, user @spudcrusty[2] photoshopped Johnson into a Trade Offer template, gaining over 300 retweets and 5,100 likes (shown below, left). User @noliver2003[3] posted an I Bet He's Thinking About Other Women joke with Mark Johnson, also gaining over 300 retweets and 5,100 likes (shown below, right). The jokes caused "Mark Johnson" to trend on Twitter on April 21st, 2021.[4]
