The Matt Neal Dog Video refers to a graphic viral video allegedly showing Pink Hill, North Carolina man Matt Neal (Matthew Neal) physically abusing a dog. On July 29th, 2024, Facebook[1] user Craven Bailey posted a video seemingly from Snapchat that allegedly showed Matt Neal, the owner of East Carolina Retrievers (a hunting dog trainer in the area), seemingly abusing a dog. Bailey wrote that he didn't take the video and said, "I do not recommend sending any dogs to this guy he does not treat animals with respect whatsoever." Over two days, the Facebook post received roughly 1,500 reactions and 2,900 shares (screenshot shown below).

The video was reposted to the subreddit /r/NorthCarolina on July 30th, 2024, by Redditor[2] Primary_Baseball450, gaining over 110 upvotes in a day. The video was also reposted by TikToker[3] @mxlon777 on July 30th, gaining over 1.7 million plays and 6,500 likes in a day.

People started posting reaction videos to the controversy during the same timeframe. For instance, on July 30th, TikToker[4] @then8tivedogfather posted a video in which he referenced the similarly discussed Cole Prevost Dog Video, receiving over 218,400 plays and 5,300 likes in a day (shown below).

Matt Neal's Arrest

On July 31st, 2024, Matt Neal was arrested by the Lenoir County Sheriff’s Office and charged with 11 counts of animal cruelty.[5] The Sheriff’s Office released a video statement concerning the arrest which was reposted by TikToker[6] @paygenich on July 31st, gaining over 736,200 plays and 57,700 likes in less than a day (shown below).
