About
Maya Oo refers to memes and discussions about the catchphrase "maya oo," attributed to a dialogue delivered by Bollywood actor Tusshar Kapoor's character "Lucky" from the 2006 film Golmaal. Lucky is a character with a speech impediment, and "maya oo" is a non-intelligible delivery of the Hindi swear word "Maderchod" (translation, motherfucker). The phrase came under renewed popularity after Tusshar Kapoor tweeted a joke alongside an advertisement featuring a mute character, and various internet users began making edited screenshots of movie dialogues where "Maderchod" is replaced with "Maya Oo."
Origin
The film Golmaal: Fun Unlimited was released on July 14th, 2006. The movie followed a cast of bumbling characters as they get into various comedic hijinks. One of the main characters in the film is a man named Lucky, played by Tusshar Kapoor, who has a severe speech impediment, causing him to utter the phrase "maya oo" in an agitated state, which likely was meant to be "Maderchod," which is Hindi for "motherfucker." A clip of the dialogue can be accessed via upload to YouTube[1] by the channel Shemaroo Comedy, where it gathered over 1.8 million views in the 4 years since its upload on December 17th, 2018 (seen below).
On January 25th, 2023, actor Tusshar Kapoor took to his Twitter[2] to share an advertisement for STOA, a program that offers MBA-type professional training.
