"Miss Me With That Gay Shit" is an ironic catchphrase used to express one's strong disapproval of content or remark that is perceivable as vaguely homoerotic, in a similar vein to the expression "no homo". A satire of the aggressively homophobic heteronormal tendencies, the expression is most commonly iterated as object-labeled image macros in which the subject indulges in an object labeled "that gay shit."

Origin

While the origin of the phrase itself is unknown, the phrase has been used on Twitter] On May 13th, 2015, Vine user Dope Island posted a vine titled "Homophobic Kindergarten Teacher." In the vine, the teacher asks students what sound a rooster makes and exclaims "miss me with that gay shit" after hearing "cock-a-doodle-doo". The Vine clip garnered 9.2 million loops and 235.7 thousand likes (shown below).

On April 14th, 2016, the clip from Dope Island was uploaded to YouTube by Sath Buttons. It currently has over 132,500 views (shown below).

On August 30th, 2016, Twitter user @snoop^[2] uploaded a photo of themselves keep away from the handle at doughnut chain "Dunkin Donuts", claiming they were "tryna make him grab the D…" The tweet has reached over 9000 retweets and 13,400 likes (shown below). A definition of "Miss Me With That Gay Shit" was posted to Urban Dictionary^[5] on October 30th, 2016.

Another popular strand of jokes featuring the phrase takes the form of image macros in which various subjects are shown embracing an object labeled "that gay shit," comparable to the tone of the Respect Women image macro series. On Tumblr, several popular variations were posted in which the image macros embraced "that gay shit." For example, a post by evangeliontoaster^[3] posted March 16th, 2017 gained over 87,000 notes (shown below, left). Another post by gaystation-4^[4] showing NFL players posted October 3rd, 2016 gained over 49,000 notes (shown below, right).
