Miss Vanjie is a memorable quote uttered by drag performer Vanessa Vanjie Mateo from the reality competition television series RuPaul's Drag Race. After being eliminated from the competition, Mateo said "Miss Vanjie" three times, which inspired numerous jokes and memes.

Origin

On March 29th, 2018, Vanessa Vanjie Mateo lost a lip sync competition to Kalorie Karbdashian-Williams.^[3] As Mateo left the stage, she backed away saying, "Miss Vanjie. Miss Vanjie. Miss Vanjie."

That evening, the @RuPaulsDragCon Twitter ^[1] posted a gif of the moment. They captioned the post (shown below, left), We ❤️❤️❤️ you, @VanessaVanjie! @rupaul @WorldofWonder @rupaulsdragrace #DragRace." The post (shown below, left) received more than 90 retweets and 700 likes.

Over the next few days, RuPaul and fans of the show began posting jokes and memes using the moment and the character. On March 30th, Twitter^[4] user @DarrenEmoji posted a remix of the chalkboard joke from The Simpsons. The post (shown below, center) received in more than 730 retweets and 2,900 likes in five days.

On March 31st, RuPaul tweeted,^[2] "Always be yourself. Unless you can be Miss Vanjie. Then always be Miss Vanjie. #DragRace." The post (shown below, right) received more than 4,400 retweets and 22,000 likes in four days.

On March 29th, Tumblr^[5] user steppenvvolf posted a video of the Miss Vanjie exit into an episode of Pokémon. The post (shown below) received more than 5,000 notes in three weeks
