Movers Knock Down a Statue refers to a commercial by adhesive manufacturer Gorilla Glue in which two movers knock down a statue while carrying a piece of furniture and get scared by a sudden appearance of a gorilla. The commercial gained popularity in edits on Instagram in late July 2019.
Origin
On February 7th, adhesive manufacturer Gorilla Glue uploaded a commercial for its product to YouTube (shown below).[1] In the commercial, two movers are carrying a drawer up the outdoor stairs, with one accidentally knocking down a statue and dropping the furniture to the ground, and then scream upon a sudden appearance of a gorilla. The video gained over 8.2 million views in seven months.
Spread
On June 6th, Instagram account zeldas.butt reuploaded a "Perfectly Cut Scream" version of the video made by an unknown user, with the edit receiving over 123,000 views and 18,200 likes in two months.[7]
On July 16th, 2019, iFunny user Botan posted the first known edit of the video, with the gorilla replaced with Donkey Kong (shown below).[6] The video gained over 53,900 smiles in two weeks.
On July 26th, 2019, Instagram user professionalretard.mp4 uploaded two edits based on the commercial to the platform, with gorilla replaced with JoJo's Bizarre Adventure antagonist Diavolo and SCP-173. [2]
In the following days, multiple Instagram users posted edits of the video, including notable posts by vw.mp4,[3] yupanthony[4] and notkinghill.[5]
