"My House Was Vandalized By Bricks" Copypasta, also known as First Off…I Am Ok. Copypasta, refers to a sarcastic copypasta and meme used to mock basketball players who have poor shooting performances. The copypasta is primarily prevalent on Twitter / X, and in April 2024, was posted in such frequency regarding a poor performance from NBA player Klay Thompson that Grok AI crafted a "trending news" story saying Thompson was accused of literally vandalizing the city of Sacramento with bricks.

Origin

The copypasta presents a scenario in which a person appears to be reporting that they suffered an attack in which their house was "vandalized by bricks," only to reveal they are making a joke about a basketball player "shooting bricks," aka missing shots. It appears to have first been posted to Twitter on March 23rd, 2022. It was posted by Twitter user @townieWRLD[1] and was used to mock Russell Westbrook. The tweet gained just three retweets and 24 likes in two years (shown below).

Over the following years, the copypasta continued to grow in prevalence as it saw use when well-known basketball players had poor shooting nights. For example, on April 8th, 2023, Twitter user @RyB311[3] tweeted it about LeBron James, gaining over 160 retweets and 1,200 likes in one year (shown below, left). On April 29th, user @LakeShowYo[4] posted it about Memphis Grizzlies players Dillon Brooks and Ja Morant, gaining over 2,700 retweets and 43,000 likes in one year (shown below, right).

Klay Thompson Variation / Twitter Trending Story

On April 16th and 17th, 2024, the copypasta appeared en masse following a 0-10 shooting night for Warriors player Klay Thompson in an elimination play-in game against the Sacramento Kings. For example, on the 17th, Twitter user @LakeShowYo[2] posted it, gaining over 3,400 retweets and 44,000 likes in less than one day (shown below, top).

As a result of the copypasta's prevalence on the platform, Twitter's Grok AI wrote a Trending Topics story that stated Thompson was being accused of literally vandalizing the city of Sacramento with bricks (shown below, bottom), prompting discussions and memes reacting to it.
