About

Neverita x Suavemente refers to a viral video of the song "Neverita" by Bad Bunny, in which he pays homage to the '90s music video "Suavemente" by Elvis Crespo, recreating frame-by-frame similar backgrounds and the same outfits from Crespo's music video. The video gained popularity online in August 2022 and went on to create a dance challenge.

Origin

On August 22th, 2022, the rapper Bad Bunny[1] decided to pay homage to the Puerto Rican singer Elvis Crespo[2] by recreating the music video of the 1999 song "Suavemente"[3] for the release of the music "Neverita,"[4] a single from the Un Verano Sin Ti album (seen below).

Bad Bunny featured similar backgrounds and the same outfits from Crespo's music video for "Suavemente." The singer ends the music video with the text in Spanish saying "In honor of the best video of all time." Crespo's video can be seen below.

Spread

Fans of the singer started to upload videos on YouTube[5] and TikTok [6] (seen below) comparing the new music video with Elvis Crespo's original clip after the new video gained popularity on August 22, 2022. YouTuber Mich uploaded a comparison between the two music videos on the same day as the release of Neverita, gaining over a million views in less than two weeks.

Bad Bunny also references other great moments in pop culture, including the viral Dancing Russian Kid (seen below). [7] This video, posted to YouTube on August 23rd, 2022 gained over 25,000 views in less than two weeks.

TikTok Dance Challenge

The song "Neverita" has 24,000 videos tagged on TikTok in four months since uploaded on the platform. On August 22nd, 2022, the dancer @marena.sofiaa who appeared in the clip began trending on TikTok. Her video doing the dance to the music video (seen below) received 9 million views in one week since being posted. Many TikTok users tried to replicate the dance in their own videos, creating the "Neverita" dance challenge.
