Nuh Uh is a catchphrase used in a series of ironic memes, including image macros and reaction images, as a way to comedically dismiss someone's opinion or fact without good reason. The meme started to become popularized online in early 2022, spreading over the course of the year.

Origin

On January 9th, 2022, a Tenor[1] user uploaded a GIF of Scripulous Fingore wagging his finger, captioned, "nuh uh" (shown below). This is the earliest known reaction image to use the caption in the correct context.

On May 15th, 2022, iFunny[2] user FLONCHZONE posted a you took everything from me meme where Thanos uses "nuh uh" as a response, garnering over 1,400 smiles in nine months (shown below).

On May 16th, 2022, Instagram[3] user yourlordandsaviorpeejesus reposted the Thanos meme, garnering over 22,100 likes in nine months. On September 19th, Instagram[4] user massachusetts_official_ posted a meme where the snake says "nuh uh" to Eve, garnering over 1,700 likes in five months (shown below, left). On October 8th, Instagram[5] user squidyz posted a photorealistic Vaporeon captioned with the phrase, garnering over 40,000 likes in four months (shown below, right).

On October 8th, Instagram[6] user chairjesus reposted the Scripulous Fingore meme, garnering over 58,000 views in four months. On October 9, Instagram[7] user patiasfantasyworld reposted the Eve image, garnering over 37,000 likes in the same span of time. Several memes showing characters wagging their fingers under the caption "nuh uh" have been uploaded to Tenor since the virality of the Scripulous Fingore meme (examples shown below).

Miles Morales 'Nuh Uh'

Nuh Uh Spiderman Meme or Miles Morales Drops Peter Parker is a series of object-labeling TikTok memes using a scene from Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse in which Miles Morales drops Peter Parker into a portal that brings him back to his own universe. The memes, often set to the song "I Wonder" by Kanye West, add new dialogue captions over each character as they talk to change the context of the scene and often end with Morales saying "nuh uh."
