About
You Took Everything From Me !! refers to a quote from the 2019 Marvel movie Avengers: Endgame when the character Scarlet Witch tells Thanos, "You took everything from me," to which Thanos replies, "I don't even know who you are." The two-panel template with coinciding quotes became the subject of object labeling from 2019 to 2021, however, in 2022 it became an exploitable, recaptioned by shitposters on Twitter and Reddit's OkBuddyRetard subreddit in a similar style to 'IDK' Punchlines.
Origin
On April 26th, 2019, the Marvel Avengers movie Avengers: Endgame was released in the U.S. [1] Within one of the final scenes of the movie, the character Scarlet Witch, also known as Wanda Maximoff (played by Elizabeth Olsen), dropped down from the sky to fight Thanos and says, "You took everything from me," as her eyes glow red. Thanos then responds, "I don't even know who you are." On August 24th, 2020, the scene was uploaded to YouTube by the channel Recall, which earned roughly 174,300 views over the course of two years (shown below).
After the movie's release, the dialogue between the two characters became a two-panel meme template called I Don't Even Know Who You Are. On July 29th, 2019, an HD version of the template was submitted to /r/MemeTemplatesOfficial,[2] where over the course of three years, it received over 310 upvotes (shown below).
Sometime in late December 2020, an unknown meme creator on Facebook created a version of the "I Don't Even Know Who You Are" template that replaced Thanos' text to read, "Stark Killed Your Parents, Ultron Shot Your Brother, I Just Took A Fckn Stone From Your $ex Doll $ I'm The One To Blame ??" (shown below).
The first known repost of the image was uploaded to Facebook[2] on December 23rd, 2020, by the Indian meme page Bakchodi To Chutiyapa, which over the course of a year and a half, received 35 reactions. A parallel post was made the next day, December 24th, by the Instagram[3] page @_bakchodsociety_, which received over 190 likes in the same amount of time.
Spread
The meme stayed close to Indian meme circles on Instagram and Facebook going into early 2021, when in April of that year it started being shared on American pages. For instance, on April 19th, 2021, the Facebook[4] page MarvelFacts shared the meme, earning roughly 6,100 reactions and 1,600 shares in one year. In the days following, it was reposted to sites like Funnyjunk [5] and 9GAG. [6]
Going into early 2022, the aforementioned meme had been reposted so many times that meme creators started to scribble out and recaption all of Thanos' text in an ironic way, similar to 'IDK' Punchlines. On May 8th, 2022, the Twitter[7] account AvengersBad posted a version that replaced all of Thanos' text with "Oopsie Daisy," earning roughly 89,500 likes over the course of four days (shown below).
Twitter users within the tweet's replies started creating their own versions, posting them going into the next day. For instance, on May 9th, 2022, Twitter[8] user fyrishere posted a version that replaced the bottom text with, "my fault og," earning over 30 likes in three days (shown below, left). Also on May 9th, Twitter[9] user baudelercio posted an exploited version of the You Break The Rules And Become The Hero template, relating it to the same practice of over-exploiting the new Scarlet Witch template. Their meme earned over 400 likes in three days (shown below, right).
On May 10th, 2022, the "Oopsie Daisy" meme was shared to the subreddit /r/OkBuddyRetard[10] where it earned over 4,400 upvotes in two days. Multiple Redditors within the subreddit started creating their own versions thereafter. For instance, on May 11th, 2022, Redditor Critical_Mass69 posted a meme to /r/OkBuddyRetard[11] that replaced Thanos' text with, "Shut The Fuck Up," earning roughly 8,000 upvotes in one day (shown below).
