About

Nya Nya Dance is a dance characterized by bending one's upper body in side-to-side swing motions. It is usually presented in flash animations with furry cartoon characters set to DJ Diskant's remix of trance song “New Day” by Danish producer Wazari.

Origin

The original "Nya Nya Dance" video was uploaded by YouTuber webkinzlid on June 24th, 2009. The video featured a fox-like character dancing to a DJ Diskant[3] remix of the song "New Day" by the electronic artist Wazari.[4] The video's name was inspired by the sound "nya", which is repeated over-and-over in the song. In less than three years, the video accumulated over 100,000 views.



Spread

On June 24th, 2009, the same day the original video was uploaded, YouTuber Eeveefet uploaded a response video with another animated character dancing to the track (shown left, below). On July 3rd, YouTuber TehEvilFoundry uploaded a video titled "Star's Nya Nya Dance", which featured a blue fox cartoon character (shown right, below).

On July 7th, 2009, YouTuber Spottedfire25 uploaded a video titled "Nya Nya Dance [Spottedfire25]", which featured a red cat-like character dancing to the song. Within three years, it ranked as the most viewed Nya Nya Dance video with over 440,000 views. On September 21st, 2010, a dance video (shown left, below) was submitted to fandom website Fanpop[7] by user MephilesTheDark. On March 19th, 2011, YouTuber cessia999 uploaded the video "nya nya dance (full)" (shown right, below), which featured a speed painting of an artwork submitted to the ferretlover9 DeviantArt[9] page.
