Ok Ima Fight These Thoughts is an image macro series based on a computer-generated image of a boxer next to the text "ok ima fight these thoughts." Below the image is a rendering of the boxer seated on a stool and drinking water with an explanation of why fighting those thoughts is difficult.
Origin
On October 6th, 2020, Twitter [1] user @boyofyouth tweeted the earliest known variation of the meme, which features the boxer sitting down and drinking water next to the text "damn this hard." The tweet received more than 86,000 likes and 32,000 retweets in less than three months (shown below).
Spread
Additionally on October 6th, 2020, Tumblr [2] user sandmandaddy shared the image and received more than 1,600 notes in less than three months.
Later that month, variations of the meme began spreading on Twitter and Tumblr. On October 26th, Twitter[3] user @dumbricardo tweeted the image with the text, "I don't struggle with depression. It comes pretty easily to me." The tweet received more than 8,500 likes and 2,100 retweets in less than three months (shown below, left).
On October 30th, 2020, Tumblr[4] user the-minecraft-funnies posted a Minecraft variation of the meme in which the boxer's text reads "ok ima fight these urges to start a new world." The post received more than 5,400 notes in less than three months (shown below, center).
On November 12th, Instagram [5] user @aborteddreams shared a variation with the text, "ok ima fight these feelings of procrastination / damn nevermind being alive is exhausting." The post received more than 7,900 reactions in less than two months (shown below, right).
Later that month, on November 18th, Facebook [6] account intelligentnibbahangout posted a variation that features a brain with arms fitted with boxing gloves and the text "damn brain got hands." The post received more than 24,000 shares, 5,200 reactions and 900 comments in less than two months (shown below).
The following day, Redditor deathstar10154 shared the meme in the /r/me_irl [7] subreddit, where it received more than 14,000 points (99% upvoted) in less than one month.
On January 5th, 2021, the website StayHipp[8] published an article on the meme.
Ima Fight These Gender Norms
The meme inspired a TikTok trend. On December 12th, 2020, TikToker @parkertozier posted a video of themself reading the meme. The post received more than 575,000 reactions and 1,600 comments before deletion.
Following the post, TikTokers began posting videos set to @parkertozier's reading of the meme in which they mock being unable to fight gender norms.
