Owo?? Choco??, often followed by the punchline Wrong! Sulfuric Acid!, refers to a series of memes based on a panel from the Boyfriends webcomic in which a young man comments "Owo?? Choco??" to hot chocolate his roommate brings him. The panel first went viral in January 2022, seeing a resurgence online in October 2022 with "sulfuric acid" parodies.

Origin

On April 19th, 2021, artist refrainbow published episode six of his webcomic Boyfriends on Webtoons.^[1] In one part of the webcomic, Prep, one of four protagonists of the story, complains to his roommate Goth, who becomes one of his boyfriends in future episodes, that he wants a "dreamy boyfriend who'd make him hot chocolate on bad days." In the next panel, Goth brings him hot chocolate, with Prep reacting "Owo?? Choco??" (panels shown below).

On January 14th, 2022, Twitter^[2] user @blottso posted the "owo" panel to Twitter, commenting "I have never winced in pure disgust harder at any image than I did at this one" (tweet no longer available). The post went viral on the website.

In January 2022, the panel maintained viral status on Twitter, with multiple users tweeting about it and the comic. For example, on January 17th, Twitter^[3] user @EmoGreen_FRE posted a Stop Posting About Among Us meme about the comic (tweet no longer available, shown below, left). On January 18th, 2022, Twitter^[4] user @witchy_writes_s posted more panels from the comic, writing that the full scene is "adorable." The tweet received over 300 retweets and 1,400 likes in one year (shown below, right).

On November 3rd, 2022, iFunny^[5] user OrangeFruit posted a meme that combined the panel with a Love Is in the Air? Wrong! meme and used a panel from My Metamorphosis Begins as a punchline. The meme (shown below) garnered over 8,400 smiles in six months and was widely reposted that month.

Prior to November 27th, 2022, an unknown user uploaded a voiced video version of the meme. On November 27th, YouTube^[6] user MORBIUS made the earliest found reupload of the video that gained over 7,100 views in six months (shown below). A December 30th, 2022, YouTube^[7] reupload by user Sponge! Roblox received over 270,000 views in five months.

Several animated versions of the meme were shared online in 2023.

Love Is in the Air? Wrong is a catchphrase used in a series of recaption memes based on an image macro of The Big Bang Theory character Sheldon Cooper (portrayed by Jim Parsons) paired with a misattributed joke quote. In the memes, the latter part of the phrase is humorously recaptioned.
