About

Pairing Songs With Squidward Accident Scenes refers to SpongeBob SquarePants video edits that add songs to the backgrounds of scenes where Squidward Tentacles gets injured.

Origin

On April 14th, 2011, YouTube[1] user PsychoSquid28 uploaded the earliest edited scene in the trend, taking a clip from SpongeBob SquarePants Season 5 episode 84b, entitled "Boat Smarts." In the scene, Squidward is flying into a spiked steamroller, and the theme music from the 1975 film Jaws plays in the background. The video received more than 266,000 views in 11 years (shown below).

On March 24th, 2023, Facebook[2] user Prasetyo Aji uploaded a similar scene, but the sound was changed to a song titled "Kamu" by Indonesian boyband COBOY JUNIOR. The video received more than 4,300 reactions and 3,600 shares in one day (shown below).

Spread

Starting that day, many Indonesians were inspired to create similar edits on Facebook. For example, on March 24th, 2023, Facebook[3] user Aik Baihaqi uploaded a similar scene that added the song "Cintaku" by Indonesian artist Chrisye. The post received 504 reactions and 524 shares in one day (shown below, left). On the same day, Facebook[4] user Coto Makassar uploaded an edit using a song titled "Panah Asmara" by Chrisye and using a different scene from the same episode. It received more than 1,700 reactions and 2,400 shares in one day (shown below, right).

It was also been used in various scenes where other characters get in accidents or are otherwise injured. For example, on March 24th, 2023, Facebook[5] user Jeremy Grant uploaded a scene from season 2 episode 24b, titled "Imitation Krabs," in which the character Plankton is inside the robot version of Mr. Krabs. The song "Selir Hati" by Indonesian band TRIAD was added. The video received more than 2,500 shares in one day (shown below, left). On the same day, Facebook[6] user Muhammad Bintang uploaded a scene from season 2 episode 35b, titled "Band Geeks," where Squidward and the other characters are in marching band practice, adding a song titled "Walau Habis Terang" by Indonesian band Peterpan. The video received more than 2,000 reactions and 2,700 shares in one day (shown below, right).
