Pakistani Sitting is a brainrot slang expression that achieved virality on TikTok in late 2024 alongside several similar phrases such as Jamaican Smile, Balkan Rage and German Stare. The use of the slang terms together, often without context and as part of Those Who Know memes, spawned a distinctive brainrot trend on TikTok during that period.

Origin

On March 1st, 2023, TikTok[1] user @wildvikingtravels uploaded a video in which she demonstrated a sitting method taught to her and her boyfriend in Balochistan, Pakistan. The method involves sitting on the ground, legs crossed, with a scarf tied around the lower spine and shins supporting the legs. The video (shown below) garnered over 932,000 views and 56,000 likes on TikTok[2] in two years.

The phrase "pakistani sitting" started gaining popularity in memes as a part of a group of similar country-related catchphrases such as "German stare" and "Jamaican smile" in early October 2024. On October 6th, 2024, TikTok[2] user @rezwonton uploaded the earliest discovered meme mentioning "Pakistani sitting" (shown below), although earlier memes mentioning it are likely to exist.

On October 7th, 2024, TikTok[3] user @yotakeith posted a video of a cat sitting in a bizarre position captioned, "Caught my cat Pakistani sitting." The meme, set to the "Mango Phonk" song and also using the Those Who Know meme as a punchline, received over 55,100 views and 3,100 likes in one month (shown below).

Throughout October 2024, the phrase appeared in numerous brainrot memes on TikTok, often being used as part of Those Who Know memes. For example, on October 21st, TikTok[4] user @usergoofball posted a quiz video on concurrent brainrot memes, with Pakistani Sitting being one of the answers. The upload (shown below) garnered over 564,000 views and 58,000 likes in two weeks.
