About
Hotspot Bro or That One Bro Who Always Needs a Hotspot is a slang term used in a series of memes that make fun of the type of person who always asks their friend to launch a Wi-Fi hotspot. The memes were popularized on TikTok in March 2025 and often use an audio consisting of an AI text-to-speech voice complaining and repeating "hotspot bro," then speaking Indonesian under AI-generated images of characters with phones that are unable to connect to the internet. When translated, the audio seems to warn against giving an "anomaly" your hotspot when it asks for access, as they will use it to download too many files. The meme is similar to other foreign-language brainrot memes like Bombardiro Crocodilo and Tralalero Tralala.
Origin
On March 8th, 2025, TIkToker[1] @dytzz88 posted a meme consisting of an AI-generated image of a sad skeleton with a cellphone for a head holding a cellphone that can't connect to the Wi-Fi network.
The meme begins with a text-to-speech voice yelling, "hotspot bro," followed by a speech in Indonesian that seems to warn against giving an "anomaly" your Wi-Fi hotspot, claiming that the anomaly will use the hotspot to download large files, such as the data for Genshin Impact. The video gained over 10 million views in just under two weeks.
@dytzz88 Anomali Hotspot 🤓😰😰 #hotspot #mokondo #wifi #anomali ♬ suara asli – 😹 (Human)
When run through Google Translate, the Indonesian speech translates to:
"No hotspot," said an anomalous chive child who didn't have a quota for his friends. This anomaly is often called Mokondo because they don't want to buy quota the rotation of snacks in the canteen didn't run out. This anomaly is also very annoying because if it is given a hotspot he immediately didn't know himself, like downloading YouTube videos, watching TikTok, and downloading Genshin data. Even though he only said hotspot to open WA. If you find this anomaly you should run. Mimin was scared and traumatized. I'm afraid.
Spread
The audio and several related audios went viral over the following days as TikTokers began using similar AI-generated imagery in memes about "the bro who asks for the hotspot." For example, on March 13th, 2025, TikToker[2] @ra25mzi posted a video using an AI image of Gollum from The Lord of the Rings with a phone, garnering over 6 million views in six days.
