Brainrot Dub Edits refers to a series of dubs to various films to feature slang overload terms, inundating classic scenes with words such as Rizz, Skibidi, Edging, and many more. This is usually accomplished with AI Voice.

Origin

It is unclear where the first edit was posted from, but the trend started spreading in late 2023. On October 8th, 2023, YouTube[1] user ThottiYT uploaded the earliest known edit using a scene from Batman The Dark Knight scene in which Batman interrogates The Joker. The video received more than 432,000 views in six months (shown below).



Spread

Starting in late 2023, similar edits grew popular on YouTube and TikTok. For example on November 10th, 2023, YouTube[2] user Memetastic uploaded a Steamed Hams edit that received more than 325,000 views in five months (shown below, left). On January 19th, 2024, YouTube[3] user Joe's Collection of Whatevers uploaded an edit using a scene from Whiplash that received more than 246,000 views in two months (shown below, right).



On December 21st, 2023, TikTok[4] user @metrogroomin uploaded an edit of a scene from The Great Gatsby . The video received more than 1.1 million views in four months (shown below, left). On December 31st, 2023, TikTok[5] user @zyngd uploaded an edit of a scene from Kung Fu Panda 3 that received more than 4.4 million views in four months (shown below, right).
