About
People Standing In Front Of Things They Destroyed, also known as Cool Men Don't Look Back After Creating A Mess, refers to an exploitable series of memes depicting fictional characters standing in front of explosions, fires and other forms of destruction with one of the panels replaced with a real-world person or thing. The format is typically used to express opinions that someone or something has destroyed a franchise, sport or other various subjects.
Origin
Depicted in the meme is the commonly seen TV trope known as the “unflinching walk” where a character casually walks away from an explosion with barely enough time to escape the blast. The exact origin of the meme is unknown, but it is seen being used as early as 2018 in the earlier form of “Cool Men Don't Look Back After Creating A Mess.” One such example comes from Twitter[1] user Tardan Bizonov, who uploaded an example on August 16th, 2018. The meme (shown below) features the main character from the animated film The Drummer and The Princess.

Spread
Other variants continued to spread in the following months to other Twitter accounts. One such example was uploaded by Twitter[2] user RESISTANCE on November 2nd, 2018. This version depicts the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi. The tweet (seen below) received 65 retweets and 134 likes.

The format appeared on Instagram[3] later, where the account marvel.addiict posted another example with film director Zack Snyder. This post (shown below) was liked 123 times.
On March 6th, 2020, the Facebook[4] page Sexually Frustrated Guts uploaded a meme featuring the character Griffith from the Berserk anime as the fourth panel. The upload (seen below) received 121 likes, 10 comments and 27 shares.
A different version of the meme using the caption “It's so badass when people stand in front of shit they destroyed” began circulating the web after the earlier version appeared. Much in the same vein as its predecessor, this format is similarly used to show someone destroying something. An example of this can be seen on March 20th, 2020, when Redditor[5] pawnime posted an example to the "r/Animemes":** sub. The meme (shown below) references Naruto and received nearly 20,000 upvotes and 318 comments.
On March 22nd, 2020, Redditor[6] JDKett posted another variant to the r/dankmemes sub with pornographic actors Johnny Sins and Dani Daniels featured in the panel. This post (seen below) was upvoted over 38,000 times and commented on 300 times.
