He first started getting popular responding to YouTube critics Jordan Owen and Davis Auruni for their rants on Anita Sarkeesian. Owen would later make a documentary called The Sarkeesian Effect in which he talked about Sarkeesian, Social Justice Warriors, and GamerGate. Brewis's first video about Owen mocked the idea of the documentary, specifically the Patreon Owen had set up. The video gained over 533,000 views (shown below, left). He later posted another video regarding the documentary, gaining over 332,000 views (shown below, right). He also contributed popular takes regarding Sargon of Akkad and the #BoycottStarWarsVII controversies.

Brewis eventually began critiquing video games that he liked and disliked. His most popular video to date features an hour and a half criticizing Fallout 3, gaining over 3 million views (shown below, left). His third-most popular video with over 1.5 million views has him praising the mechanics of Bloodborne (shown below, right).

Other topics covered by Brewis include Loss, Sonic the Hedgehog, Paul Joseph Watson, Soy Boys, and more.

Online Presence

Brewis' channel has over 234,000 subscribers.[2] He also has over 47,000 Twitter followers.[3] A subreddit devoted to him has over 600 subscribers.[4]

Reputation

Hbomberguy has been documented on TV Tropes.[5] He has appeared on the Critical Distance podcast talking about his work.[6] He also appeared on the PC Panel podcast[7] talking about "engaging with the other side." Notably, he created a Chrome extension that helped block videos of the same right-wing YouTubers he was mocking.

Because of his views, other YouTubers have criticized his work. Mouthy Buddha claimed Brewis was misrepresenting him in one of his videos (shown below, left). Brewis' Dark Souls II video generated a strong response from YouTuber MauLer, who responded to that video alone in four different videos (example shown below, right).

Political Views

Brewis' political views are very left-wing, and he routinely mocks right wing YouTubers and personalities in his videos. In addition to jabs at capitalism peppered throughout most of his videos, Brewis is outwardly left wing on his other social media channels. He has called himself a communist, though has admitted he does so to get a rise out of people and dislikes the British Communist Party.[1] He describes himself as a "far-left socialist" type.
