About

Hoshimachi Suisei is a Japanese VTuber that's part of the group Hololive 0th generation. She began streaming in March 2018 and is known for her music-focused content and occasional gaming streams. Suisei is also sometimes associated with the "Psychopath Suisei" persona. In 2021, the streamer became the subject of an /r/place struggle between the subreddits /r/okbuddyhololive and /r/hololive over the nickname "Suisex." In the fall of 2022, the streamer took a break for health reasons, citing a major throat surgery.

Online History

On March 18th, 2018, Hoshimachi Suisei posted her first YouTube^[1] video to her channel, gathering over 290,000 views in four years (seen below).

On May 19th, Suisei announced her affiliation with INNK MUSIC, a music label associated with Hololive.^[2] On November 29th, she announced her transfer from INNK MUSIC to Hololive's main branch,^[3] and then on December 1st, she posted her first official stream as part of Hololive.

Suisei is most active on Bilibili and YouTube,^[4] where she has over 1 million followers as of November 2022. She is also active on Twitter^[5] with over 1 million followers. Most of her content is video game-related streams and her music.

In early 2021, an image macro of Suisei with the word "suisex" superimposed on it began to circulate on Twitter and 4chan (example seen below).

On December 19th, 2020, Twitter^[6] user @cyngapra posted the aforementioned meme alongside another image macro containing the word "sex." The post gathered over 400 likes in nearly two years (seen below).

On April 26th, 2021, Twitter user @oogetsurina posted a screenshot of the Suisex image macro being spammed on Twitter, gathering over 28 likes in over a year (seen below).^[7]

On July 19th, 2021, Twitter user @tabakko posted a tweet claiming to have started the "suisex" meme on a server in 2020. The post gathered over 2,000 likes in over a year.^[14]

The meme continued to grow in popularity over the following year, with the subreddit /r/okbuddyhololive taking the charge in making "suisex" content.^[8][9][10] On April 1st, 2022, /r/okbuddyhololive began a campaign to immortalize the word "suisex" on /r/place, starting a pixel war with the official /r/hololive subreddit.^[11]

On April 1st, Twitter^[12] user @Alparabel posted about starting a "civil war" between /r/okbuddyhololive and the official Hololive subreddit, gathering 40 likes in nearly six months. The tweet was then added to a video montage celebrating the "suisex" victory in a Reddit^[13] post by Garfields_Cum_Slut, who posted a timelapse of /r/place to /r/okbuddyhololive on April 5th, 2022, gathering over 3,800 upvotes in six months (seen below).
