About
Kendall Jenner is an American model and TV personality, best known for being the world’s highest-paid model since 2017, and for starring in the E! Reality TV series Keeping Up with the Kardashians.
Career
In October 2007, Jenner and her parents, sister and half-siblings were hired by the American basic cable and satellite television channel E! to star in the reality television series Keeping Up with the Kardashians. The series will conclude in 2021 with a total of twenty seasons with 260 episodes.
Beginning in 2012, Kendall began her career by collaborating with PacSun[1] to create a clothing line with her sister Kylie. After first working as a model in several ad campaigns and photoshoots, Jenner had breakout seasons in 2014 and 2015, walking the runways for high-fashion designers during the New York, Milan, and Paris fashion weeks. She was named the "world's highest paid model" in a November 2017 issue of Forbes[1], occupying the spot every year since. [2][3][4]
Online History
On June 2010, Jenner launched her official Twitter [4] feed, gathering more than 31 million followers over the next decade. On July 12, 2011, Jenner created her Instagram [5] photo feed, garnering upwards of 154 million followers in nine years.
Iconic Duo
Pepsi Ad
In 2017 Jenner starred in a commercial for Pepsi in which she joins a protest and offers a police officer a can of Pepsi. Released on April 4th, 2017, the commercial (shown below) came under intense criticism for its attempt to evoke and commodify protest movements, such as Black Lives Matter, and the tense relationships between those groups and police. The advertisement was pulled after receiving online backlash, with Pepsi and Jenner being accused of trivializing Black Lives Matter and police brutality.
Fyre Festival
In 2017, Jenner was paid to promote the Fyre Festival on Instagram along with other social media influencers. She received $275,000 for an Instagram post (seen below) and did not initially disclose she had been paid for it. The festival went on to become one of the biggest event debacles in recent history. Jenner has since deleted the post and settled minor damages out of court. She has expressed regret for pariticipating. [6]
25th Birthday Halloween Party
In November 2020, Jenner faced public criticism after having a birthday party with a hundred plus attendance during the coronavirus pandemic. Attendees, including Justin Bieber and The Weeknd, were seen as being disconnected. The event took place three days after Kim Kardashian tweeted pictures of her 40th Birthday Party, which was also roundly mocked.
Modeling
Jenner has received notable online attention for her modeling. On October 22nd, 2018, @VogueParis[] tweeted an image of Jenner in a very large red winter coat. The image became a meme.
On February 12, 2021, Jenner posted pictures from a photoshoot (NSFW) on her Instagram account, inspiring some of her followers to post a flurry of insecure and self-shaming posts and tweets, which the model addressed.[10]
