About
Lil Uzi Vert, also known as Lil Uzi is the stage name of rapper and hip hop artist Symere Woods. Coming to prominence in 2016, they became known for hits such as "Money Longer", a feature on the song "Bad and Bougee" by Migos, and helping with the popularization and proliferation of the emo rap genre with "XO Tour Llif3". In 2020, they released their much-anticipated second studio album Eternal Atake after a somewhat prolonged dispute with DJ Drama, who first signed Uzi to their record label.
History
Prior to gaining larger fame, Symere Woods made music under the name Vert, referring to a vertical jump, before adding Uzi to their name referring to their fast rap flows, similar to that of an Uz machine guni. Their first project was an EP released in 2014 titled Purple Thoughtz Vol. 1 which garnered attention in hip hop news outlets and Def Jam A&R Don Cannon. They released their first mixtape The Real Uzi later that year, eventually signing onto a major record label deal with Atlantic Records through Generation Now, an imprint founded by Cannon and DJ Drama.
On October 30th, 2015, they released his commercial debut mixtape Luv is Rage followed by the more successful Lil Uzi Vert vs. the World, featuring the song "Money Longer", which would later become Lil Uzi Vert's debut single.
