Lil Uzi Vert's Pink Tape is the third studio album by American rapper Lil Uzi Vert. The album was released on June 30th, 2023, across streaming platforms like Spotify and Apple Music. Upon its release, the album led to a slew of reactions and memes across social media sites like Twitter, Instagram and Reddit, among others. The public reception of Pink Tape was seemingly polarizing, evident in memes that portrayed dismay and others that portrayed adoration. Strong reactions were commonly due to the album being sonically different from Uzi's past work since it mixed in elements of rock, punk and nu-metal sounds. For instance, one song called "CS" carried lots of discourse, due to it being Lil Uzi's cover of "Chop Suey!" by System Of A Down.
History
In December 2020, Lil Uzi Vert first teased an upcoming album on an Instagram Live, which at the time, was either going to be called Luv Is Rage 3 or Forever Young.[1] Years later, after the release of their song "Just Wanna Rock," Lil Uzi furthered teased their upcoming album, calling it Pink Tape.[2] A week before the album's release, Lil Uzi officially announced that it'd be dropping on June 30th, 2023,[2] which came to fruition that day.[3] Prior to the release, on June 26th, Lil Uzi's YouTube[4] channel uploaded a trailer for the album, gaining roughly 1.6 million views and 129,000 likes in four days (shown below).
Online Reaction
Following the album's release on the morning of June 30th, 2023, various internet users gave their opinions on Lil Uzi's Pink Tape via memes and viral tweets. For instance, on June 30th, Twitter[5] user @bitchiwas999 tweeted, "Lil Uzi Vert dropped a classic 😭," with a Chandler Bing Hugging a Record meme, gaining roughly 7,300 likes in one day (shown below, left). Another positive reaction was posted by Twitter[6] user @ihyomeo on June 30th, who claimed, "hearing 'uzi wake your ass up' on a new uzi track after years got me like," gaining roughly 3,000 likes in one day (shown below, right).
The album also earned negative reactions and memes from people on Twitter. For instance, on June 30th, Twitter[7] user @hunter_hhhh tweeted, "this has been a very bad week for song writing," attaching song lyrics from Fall Out Boy's then-recent "We Didn't Start The Fire" cover, Colleen Ballinger Ukulele Apology Video and two songs from Lil Uzi's Pink Tape, including one lyric that referenced the Griddy. In one day, the tweet gained roughly 10,600 likes (shown below).
"CS" / Lil Uzi's "Chop Suey!" Cover
"CS" is the 17th track in Lil Uzi Vert's Pink Tape. The song caused a slew of reactions due to it being a rendition of "Chop Suey!" by System Of A Down. The song was tweeted by the Twitter[8] gimmick account crazy ass moments in nu metal history on June 30th, 2023, gaining roughly 3,900 likes in one day (shown below).

The aforementioned tweet gained upwards of 1.5 million views in one day despite its like count. This was mostly due to viral quote retweets from users expressing their opinions on the song. For instance, on June 30th, Twitter[9] user @WTCHCRFT666 tweeted, "I’m not kidding when I say this is one of the worst things I’ve ever heard a mainstream artist do," gaining roughly 4,800 likes in one day (shown below, left). Also on June 30th, YouTuber Justin Whang tweeted,[10] "I have listened to extremely drunk people yell Chop Suey at karaoke probably hundreds of times in my life at this point and this is the absolute worst take on it I’ve heard," gaining roughly 3,900 likes in one day (shown below, right).
Positive reactions to Lil Uzi Vert's "CS" also surfaced online, such as a tweet sent by Twitter[11] user @moshpitterr who tweeted a photo of a jumping, punk Spider-Man with the caption, "this how listening to CS and Werewolf by Lil Uzi Vert feels," gaining roughly 12,600 likes in one day (shown below).
