About

Sodapoppin is the online handle of Chance Morris, a Twitch streamer and YouTuber best known for his streams in the MMORPG World of Warcraft, as well as IRL and vlog content. Sodapoppin is a Twitch partner and one of its biggest streamers, with millions of followers and hundreds of millions of views since joining the platform in its early stages around 2012.

Career

Sodapoppin’s first foray into professional gaming began when he created and posted WoW videos to YouTube[1] and WarCraftMovies[2] around mid-2012. Shortly after, Sodapoppin began streaming on Xfire and his YouTube channel where performed various antics and dares from viewers in exchange for money. He then migrated to Twitch[3] later on in 2012 where he brought along his fanbase and was quickly offered a partnership with Twitch. After seeing so much success early on, he dropped out of college and pursued a career as a full-time streamer, as he already had hundreds of thousands of followers.

On January 2nd, 2013, Sodapoppin uploaded a video (seen below) to his YouTube[4] channel titled “Snow for the first time!” and received over 290,000 views in seven years.

In 2014 and 2015, Sodapoppin began streaming various online gambling matches,[5] where he would win or lose thousands of dollars a day. On May 15th, 2015, during a stream, he lost $5,000 in one hand with over 40,000 viewers watching, later uploaded to his YouTube[6] where it received over 5 million views in five years (shown below).

Sodapoppin co-founded the Canadian esports organization Northern Gaming in 2015, and in August 2017, it was then acquired by NRG Esports.[7] In October 2017, Sodapoppin participated in the H1Z1 Invitational tournament where he eliminated Dr Disrespect before being eliminated himself. The clip (seen below) was later uploaded to his YouTube,[8] receiving over 138,000 views in three years.

July 2020 Twitch Ban and Apology Video

On July 20th, 2020, Sodapoppin received a temporary ban and suspension from Twitch, who gave no explanation as to why (similar to Dr Disrespect’s 2020 Twitch Ban in June). Fans speculated that the cause stemmed from a recent VRChat stream with roflgator, who similarly received a temporary ban. Later that night, Sodapoppin tweeted[9] “haha I know why I was banned and u don't,” receiving over 27,000 likes in 24 hours. Shortly after, he then posted a sarcastic apology video on his YouTube[10] (shown below), which was viewed more than 850,000 times in 24 hours.

Personal Life

Sodapoppin, born on February 15th, 1994, currently resides in Austin, Texas and has five siblings, as well as two dogs and a cat. His father and brother, DKane, occasionally appear on streams with him. Sodapoppin collaborates with several other streamers in the industry, perhaps most notably Greekgodx.
