Lovejoy and Wilbur Soot

On April 20th, 2025, Tyler Catastrophe posted a video on his TikTok^[3] "auditioning" to be a "second vocalist" for the English indie rock band Lovejoy. The video, which has received 1.5 million views and 89,000 likes in a year, received mass derision and mockery from the TikTok community over the following months.

A second TikTok^[4] video, uploaded months later on February 27th, 2026, featured Tyler describing the history of his crush "Will Gold." Gold, better known as English YouTuber and musician Wilbur Soot, had previously been embroiled in controversy due to allegations of ab-se from a former girlfriend the year prior.

In the video, Tyler describes meeting Soot after a Lovejoy concert and calling him "adorable," while claiming that there is a "non-zero chance" that he could end up with the YouTuber. The video, now muted, went viral, gaining over 1.5 million views and 69,900 likes in less than two months.

The video was widely mocked and caused TikTok users to look back at Tyler's older videos, causing the audition video to resurface as well. As users discovered more, they began to discuss what they perceived as Tyler's parasocial relationship with the YouTuber and apparent narcissistic tendencies.

On April 12th, 2026, YouTuber^[5] Katiclyzm uploaded a video titled "The Tyler Catastrophe Situation Is Deranged" discussing the situation. The video garnered nearly 100,000 views, 5,000 likes and 440 comments in a day.

Jolene by Dolly Parton

As past videos continued to resurface on TikTok in April 2026, users found a video in which Tyler claims that before he transitioned, strangers would approach him to tell him that he is what they imagine Jolene from the Dolly Parton song of the same name looked like. Though the video has since been deleted, screen recordings of it surfaced in mid-April 2026, prompting a running joke on TikTok where users comment on Tyler's videos, claiming that he looks exactly how they imagine Jolene.

Tyler Catastrophe has garnered a reputation as a lolcow on TikTok. On April 9th, 2026, TikTok^[7] user @jessx.vw uploaded a video, stating that Wilbur Soot deserves to be "tortured" by Tyler, which received 573,300 views and 131,200 likes in just four days.

On April 10th, 2026, Tyler Catastrophe uploaded a video to his TikTok^[8] account addressing the backlash he had received for his obsession with Wilbur Soot, which received 1 million views and 37,300 likes in just three days. Reactions in the comment section were generally negative from many users.

On April 12th, 2026, trans TikToker^[9] @cherubug_ posted a video commenting on the Tyler Catastrophe situation, asking, "why is he lowk the first transmasc lolcow #represent," which received 654,500 views and 135,200 likes in less than one day.

Stuart Semple Saga

As older videos surfaced, TikTok users noted frequent references to an incident in which Tyler claims he was offered a job in an artist's studio in England, only for it to be rescinded at the last minute, leaving him financially ruined. The artist was revealed to be Stuart Semple, a British contemporary artist known for performance art.

TikTok users were able to piece together a narrative in which Tyler misinterprets friendly behavior as a full-fledged job offer, before turning on Semple when the offer did not materialize. On April 20th, 2026, TikTok^[10]@eatmykrustyshorts uploaded a chronological compilation video of the "Stuart Semple Saga" captioned: "Watch as the story changes in real time." The video received 1.5 million views and 148,300 likes in four days.

On April 23rd, 2026, Stuart Semple responded to the incident on his TikTok ^[11] account, @.stuartsemple, posting a picture with Tyler and the bracelet he was gifted, with a caption clarifying that he did not offer Tyler a job.

The same day, he posted the same pictures and clarification on his Instagram^[12] stories (catalogued on Reddit).
