Young Dabo is a music critic on YouTube known for his emotional reactions to music, often crying during his reviews. Young Dabo began posting on YouTube in July 2021 and gained a cult following over the year, particularly in hip-hop communities and on TikTok. As of August 2022, Young Dabo has over 144,000 subscribers on YouTube.

History

Young Dabo posted his first video to YouTube[1] on July 14th, 2021. The video is a reaction to the 2021 XXL Cypher and gained over 1,500 views in a year. By February 2022, Young Dabo's videos started to gain a following. For example, on February 20th, Dabo posted a reaction to Yeat's album "2 Alivë," gaining over 23,000 views in six months (shown below, left). On February 28th, he posted a video to YouTube[2] reacting to "I Hate YoungBoy," gaining over 98,000 views in the same rough span of time (shown below, right).



On May 21st, Dabo posted a review of Playboi Carti's album "Die Lie" to YouTube,[3] calling it the "best album of this generation" in the title, gaining over 92,000 views in three months (shown below). During the review Dabo cries to the album.



On May 22nd, Dabo posted a reaction and review of Tyler, the Creator's "IGOR" to YouTube,[4] gaining over 650,000 views in two months (shown below, left). On May 28th, Dabo posted a reaction and review of Frank Ocean's "Blond" to YouTube,[5] gaining over 791,000 views in two months (shown below, right). He cries during both reactions.

Memes

Young Dabo's reactions to albums, particularly the ones where he cries, have inspired memes across social media. On May 29th, 2022, a now-deleted Redditor posted the thumbnail to Dabo's "Blond" reaction to /r/playboicarti,[9] writing, "Bro is about to fucking die 💀," gaining over 5,600 upvotes in two months (shown below). On the same day, TikToker[10] @prayf0rparis posted an edit of Dabo crying, gaining over 898,000 views in two months.

On June 1st, Tenor[11] user Mincecraft posted a GIF of Dabo crying (shown below). On June 5th, Redditor Educational-Yam225 posted a screenshot of Dabo crying to /r/TylerTheCreator,[12] writing, "bro really cried to SHE but seriously best reactions on youtube no cap," gaining over 1,300 upvotes in two months. On June 19th, TikToker[13] @_wlife posted a compilation of Dabo clips, gaining over 2.9 million views in two months.

Me Listening to My Unorganized Playlist refers to a series of memes based on a viral supercut of Young Dabo listening through a "400-hour-long unorganized playlist," his reactions changing drastically with the mood of the songs comprising it. In September 2022, the format gained virality on Twitter and Reddit as users replaced songs from the video with their favorite music albums and soundtracks.
