Please Don't Break The Window refers to a viral image of a dog in a car with a sign attached to the window that reads "Please don't break the window. The A/C is on, he has water, and is listening to his favorite music." After the image went viral it was parodied, either by reposting the text with a different picture or altering the original image as an exploitable.

Origin

On May 28th, 2016, Twitter user @fioses[1] posted the image of the dog with the sign on the window, gaining over 56,000 retweets and 89,000 likes (shown below).

Spread

As the tweet quickly went viral people responded with various edits of their own. The following day @fioses[2] tweeted a version where he replaced the text on the sign to suggest the photo had been staged (shown below, left). On the 31st, Twitter user @bseyka[3] posted an edit in which the sign read the dog was listening to ""Smooth" by Santana Feat. Rob Thomas":/memes/smooth-by-santana-feat-rob-thomas (shown below, right).

The popularity of the tweet led to a high volume of parodies. The parodies largely consisted of the the text copied with a different picture inserted. A popular example of the template posted by @dumbassidiot4[4] featured a stuffed animal of Shrek, gaining over 35,000 retweets and 61,000 likes (shown below, left). Restaurant chain Whataburger[5] also posted a parody of the image, showing a food order strapped in a seatbelt (shown below, right).

The post and its various parodies also drew the attention of several news outlets, including Metro,[6] Smosh,[7] Daily Dot,[8] and more.
