Pomni Dread Zoom-In is a video caption meme format based on the ending scene of the pilot episode of The Amazing Digital Circus in which the camera zooms in on the main character Pomni as full realization of her situation dawns on her. The scene achieved popularity as a caption format on YouTube and other platforms shortly following the premiere of the series in mid-October 2023.

Origin

On October 13th, 2023, pilot episode of the animated dark comedy series The Amazing Digital Circus premiered on YouTube,[1] garnering over 23 million views in ten days. In the final scene of the episode, as characters sit down for a feast, camera slowly zooms in on main character Pomni's face, as she apparently comes to full realization of her bizarre, hopeless and life-altering situation (23:52 second mark).



…because we don't need to eat, drink or sleep in this digital world, so the digital here only gives off the virtual sensation of eating without any of the nutritional benefits.

Spread

On October 14th, 2023, X[2] / Twitter user @bhomaas3 posted the clip, with the upload gaining over 180 reposts and 1,300 likes in ten days. On October 15th, 2023, YouTuber[3] Kenjo uploaded the scene with dialogue removed. The video (shown below, left) accrued over 1.9 million views in nine days.

On October 13th, 2023, YouTube[4] user SixerMerchant posted the earliest caption meme based the clip. The post (shown below, right) accrued over 97,000 views in ten days.



On October 15th, 2023, YouTube[5] user JustfiedJusty posted a caption meme based the clip as they reuploaded it with the title "School." The upload garnered over 264,000 views in eight days. On October 18th, YouTube[6] user Todd Hayseed reuploaded the clip with the title "December…" with the video accumulating over 670,000 views in five days.

On October 18th, YouTube[7][8][9] channels 🧀Cheese Productions🧀, RandomContent and Wolftricks! all posted formatted video caption meme based on the clip. The posts received over 3,900, 10,000 and 25,000 views in five days (shown below, left and right).



In the following week, more video caption memes based on the format were posted on YouTube, iFunny, Reddit and TikTok. Additionally, several videos in which the clip transitioned into Buddy Holly by Weezer due to musical similarity saw spread on YouTube[10] (example shown below).
