About

#PoohSays is a series of video remixes based on a moment from the teaser trailer for 2018 Disney film Christopher Robin. The remixes replace the character of Winnie the Pooh's voice with various audio recordings for humorous effect.

Origin

On March 6th, 2018, the teaser trailer for the film Christopher Robin. In the trailer, the character Christopher Robin (played by Ewan McGregor) turns around to see the fantastical character of Winnie the Pooh. When he sees the bear, he says, "Pooh?" Pooh responds, "Christopher Robin." Since being uploaded to YouTube [1] that day, the video (shown below) received more than 2.5 million views.

That day, Twitter [2] user @JTEmoviethinks tweeted a remix of the moment and replaced Pooh's voice with a memorable quote from Jigsaw from Saw. The post (shown below, left) received more than 10 retweets and 75 likes in 24 hours.

Shortly after, @JTEmoviethinks[3] poster remixed the video again using memorable quote "Hey Mark" from The Room. The post (shown below, right) received more than 220 retweets and 745 likes in 24 hours.

Spread

Later that day, the Twitter[4] account for the website Collider also posted a variation using the line from The Room. The post (shown below) received more than 90 retweets and 200 likes in 24 hours.




Throughout the day, more people began posting variations of the video, using different lines and quotes from various properties. Thrillist editor Matt Patches tweeted[5] a variation using a quote from the film Ted. The post (shown below, left) received more than 40 retweets and 100 likes in 24 hours. Twitter[6] user @Nibellion tweeted a version that replaced Pooh with the Poop Emoji. The post (shown below, right) received more than 350 retweets and 750 likes in 24 hours.

Several media outlets covered the popularity of the remixes including Nerdist.[7]
