About

Poop Challenge refers to a viral prank wherein parents ask their kids to fetch a roll of toilet paper, which they've covered with a substance that looks like fecal matter but is actually something sanitary such as chocolate or toilet paper, and film their kids' reactions.

Origin

On March 5th, 2020, Facebook user Rubee Adams[1] posted a video in which they pulled the prank on their child using chocolate, gaining over 15,000 reactions and 39,000 shares (shown below). The video was covered by Metro.[2]

Spread

Over the following weeks, the prank grew popular online as other parents replicated the stunt. Popular examples include a post by @__brittanilh that gained over 37,000 retweets and 129,000 likes (shown below, top) and a post by @xiaraaaa_ that gained over 176,000 retweets and 675,000 likes (shown below, bottom).

Others were more agog at the concept of the viral prank than the videos themselves. For example, Twitter user @camwoodstock[3] posted a Le Monke in response to the trend (shown below, left). User @sharvail[4] posted a GIF from Parks and Recreation expressing their disgust (shown below, right). The videos were covered by The Daily Dot.[5]
