About

The Ray-Ban Camera Glasses TikTok Trend refers to a trend on TikTok that involves Ray-Ban's "Meta Smart Glasses" which have a built-in camera. TikTokers wear the glasses and look into a mirror while lip-dubbing the sped-up remix of Jungkook's song "3D," leading with the lyrics, "So, if you're ready and if you'll let me. I want to see it, in motion, in 3D." The viral camera glasses trend trended en masse in December 2023, leading to parodies posted by TikTokers who couldn't afford the roughly $300 glasses.

Origin

Ray-Ban's "Meta Smart Glasses" were initially announced on Instagram[1] on June 3rd, 2022, in collaboration with the company Meta. The product was officially released on October 17th, 2023.[2]

On November 19th, 2023, TikToker[3] @kakeguson started the TikTok trend with the glasses, using a sped-up remix of Jungkook's song "3D" as the TikTok sound.[4] The TikToker showed herself in the bathroom mirror, playing with the idea of the camera being hidden. In three weeks, the video received over 86.3 million plays and 10.3 million likes (shown below).

Spread

Soon after, others on TikTok replicated @kakeguson's video, using their own camera glasses from Ray-Ban. For instance, on November 22nd, 2023, TikToker[5] @wanna_be_ur_ex_boyfriend posted a video that received over 1 million plays and 157,700 likes in two weeks (shown below, left). On November 26th, 2023, TikToker[6] @elsarca made her own video, gaining roughly 1.1 million plays and 154,700 likes in 17 days (shown below, right).

As the trend became increasingly prevalent, parodies ensued, such as a video posted by TikToker[7] @ducuri.gmv on December 4th, 2023, in which he taped another phone to his glasses, gaining over 19.4 million plays and 3.1 million likes in nine days (shown below, left). On December 5th, TikToker[8] @justalya_everday posted a video that combined many from the trend, receiving over 350,300 plays and 35,400 likes in eight days (shown below, right).
