Rihanna Argument refers to an image of pop singer Rihanna arguing with Hassan Jameel in Mexico which spread as people joked about what the two could be arguing about. The singer later appeared to clarify the argument was about the 2018 World Cup.

Origin

On July 9th, 2018, the Daily Mail^[1] reported that Rihanna and her on/off boyfriend Hassan Jameel were photographed arguing in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico (image shown below).

Spread

After the image was posted online, Twitter users joked about it by adding various captions imagining what Rihanna and Jameel were arguing about. Some jokes referenced the lengthy amount of time since Rihanna last released music; Twitter user @WhyYouPetty gained over 200 retweets and 370 likes with such a joke (shown below, left). User @selfishfenty tweeted a similar joke gaining over 10 retweets and 80 likes (shown below, right).

Other jokes about the photos featured people taking Rihanna's side in the unknown argument. Twitter user @zainzrih gained over 3,300 retweets and 8,700 likes (shown below, left). User @lifewithJRDN gained over 170 retweets and 430 likes with a similar joke (shown below, right).

On July 12th, Rihanna seemed to clarify that they were arguing about soccer when she posted to Instagram a picture of a lion appearing to yell at another one with the caption "when you think you know more about soccer." Jokes were covered by Billboard,^[2] HighSnobiety,^[3] and The Daily Dot.^[4]
