About

Say That Again is a reaction GIF and video of Fantastic Four character Reed Richards saying the line upon hearing The Thing say the word "fantastic" and coming up with the name "Fantastic Four." Starting in November 2023, the clip has been used as a punchline for phonetic puns, such as imagining famous people coming up with their ideas after hearing someone say similar-sounding words.

Origin

On August 7th, 2015, the superhero film Fantastic Four premiered.[1] In the final scene of the film, the character Mr. Fantastic / Reed Richards, portrayed by Miles Teller, suggests that the group should come up with a team name. During the scene, the character Ben Grimm / The Thing comments that the team's journey has been "fantastic," with Richards asking Grimm to repeat what he just said.

- We've come a long way since the garage
- Gotta say, it's fantastic.
- Say that again.
- It's fantastic.
- Yes it is. Guys, I got it! Ready?

On November 19th, 2023, X[2] user @momoworld___ posted a video caption meme based on the clip of Richards saying the line. The meme imagined DC Comics character Bloodsport coming up with the name for the antihero team Suicide Squad. The post (shown below) received over 140 reposts and 2,900 likes in one year.

Spread

Later on November 19th, 2024, X[3] user @Parzival_jay posted a caption meme based on the same clip which humorously imagined the way Peter Parker came up with the superhero name Spider-Man. The post (shown below) garnered over two million views, 2,300 reposts, and 39,000 likes in one year.

The caption format saw viral spread on X / Twitter in the following days. On November 21st, 2023, Tenor[4] user CJemerald101 posted a GIF based on the clip.

In 2024, multiple memes based on the format went viral on X and TikTok. For example, on August 18th, 2024, X[5] user @SiddhantAdlakha posted a meme about media executive David Zaslav that received over 1,500 reposts and 13,000 likes in five months (shown below).

In the second half of 2024, the clip saw continued use in memes online, primarily as a GIF caption format and as a reaction GIF on X and Reddit.
