"She Was His Queen" refers to a series of jokes mocking a line from Suicide Squad about The Joker and Harley Quinn. The full line reads, "She was fearless and crazier than him. She was his queen, and God help anyone who dared to disrespect his queen." In the jokes, the line is paired with an image of a humorous couple.

In Suicide Squad, the lines are spoken by Viola Davis' character Amanda Waller narrating an introduction to The Joker and Harley Quinn.

Spread

After the film was released, the line inspired fan art of The Joker and Harley Quinn. One of the more infamous edits, shown below, was posted to Instagram in late August.^[1]

The fan art soon inspired edits in other fandoms, as well as parody edits featuring various unlikely pairings. The line also appeared on Twitter as captions to photos of unlikely couples. New York Magazine^[2] covered the spread of the meme on December 22nd.
