History
On March 23rd, 2022, Twitter[1] account Crazy Ass Moments in American Politics (@ampol_moment) became active, posting bizarre or otherwise peculiar moments from U.S. politics. Its first post about the 1984 U.S. Presidential Election received over 390 retweets and 9,200 likes in one week (shown below).[2]
On the same day, the account shared its first viral tweet, two photographs from former associate justice of the Supreme Court Ruth Bader Ginsburg's funeral in which her personal fitness trainer is doing pushups near her coffin. The post gained over 9,300 retweets and 151,800 likes in one week (shown below).
Starting on March 23rd, multiple posts shared by the gimmick account went viral on Twitter,[3][4] with many gathering over 100,000 likes. For example, a photograph of Tennessee State Representative Kent Calfee taking a sip from a bottle of chocolate syrup received over 10,400 retweets and 137,400 likes in one week (shown below, left). A screenshot's of Hillary Clinton's tweet in which she made a failed prediction about becoming a president gained over 4,200 retweets and 111,600 likes in one week (shown below, center).
