About
Skipping Steps refers to an object labeling exploitable showing a young boy stretching his legs over several steps in a set of stairs. In the exploitable, the boy is labeled one character or stereotype and the stairs are labeled different steps in a path, showing the character's willingness to jump to the end of the path.
Origin
The first known iteration of the meme was posted on March 23rd, 2019 to /r/dankchristianmemes[5] (shown below).
Spread
On April 3rd, 2019, Imgur user SarahsAnxiety[1] posted an object labeling meme of a boy stretching his leg over several stairs, with the boy labeled "Guys in the military," and the stairs labeled the steps between "seeing a girl" and "marriage." The image gained over 2,300 points and 100,000 views (shown below).
The following day, the image appeared on /r/military,[2] where it gained over 940 points. It appeared in /r/funny[3] on April 8th, gaining over 10,000 points, then on /r/MemeTemplatesOfficial.[4] On April 19th, a variation was posted to /r/MemeEconomy[6] gaining over 6,700 points (shown below, left). On April 26th, 2019, an image was posted to /r/pcmasterrace[7] gaining over 480 points (shown below, right).
