About

Socialist Teeth refers to an art challenge within the Furry community on Twitter. The challenge started as a parody of a furry Twitter user who commented that furries who express left-wing political views will have "socialist teeth" in their fursona avatars, meaning the user believed that Twitter users with drawn animal characters baring their teeth as their avatars are generally left-wing.

Origin

On June 29th, 2020, Twitter user @Blue_Dingolf posted a series of tweets attempting to illustrate how a left-wing furry user attempted to race-bait with a joke then back off their claim. In response, on June 30th, user DiQTheFur[1] pointed out that people like this have "socialist teeth" in their Twitter avatars (shown below).

Spread

The phrase became associated with an art trend several days later when, on July 8th, 2020, Twitter user @aqueerwolf[2] posted a screenshot of the conversation, gaining over 3,000 retweets and 8,600 likes (shown below).

Katav a g(r)ay wolf @aqueerwolf lol oh my god, I need me some socialist teeth They all have the "Socialist teeth" showing in their avatars too. 5:17 AM Jun 30, 2020 · Twitter Web App 7 Likes Socialist teeth? 27 Oversized bared teeth, normally looking down at the viewer. These are just some grabbed in about 5 minutes. And some may only be bared teeth because of the anti-police ribbon. But there are many many many more examples if you look.

As the tweet spread, Twitter users began posting furry artwork showing animals with bared teeth as a way to signal their allegiance with left-wing politics. For example, user @scpkidd[3] posted artwork that gained over 400 retweets and 2,100 likes (shown below, left). User @kind7ed[4] posted art that gained over 230 retweets and 930 likes (shown below, right).

Others joked about the spread of the hashtag itself. In particular, many Twitter users joked about a suspected bot account that misunderstood the hashtag, saying countries suffered under "socialist teeth"[4] (shown below, left). User @YeetBeauty[5] posted a Money Printer Go Brrr meme about the trending hashtag, gaining over 400 retweets and 1,700 likes (shown below, right).

Daniel @DSkentel The tag #socialistteeth is great, it consists of socialist furries posting their fursonas and speaking out against bigotry. But, if that wasn't wonderful enough, it's also triggered a bunch of right-wing bots, unable to comprehend the term it's exposed the accounts artificiality. Boycott Chinese Vaccine USA @ChineseVaccine Slovenia was once under #socialistteeth. Results: Total failure. Haven't our democrats learned anything from history? Then why is it being imposed on the people? The #EnemyOfThePeople call him #CreepyTrump, but we the people will not be silenced. 11:59 PM · 08 Jul 20 · Twitter Web App

Bots and Twitter attention seekers boosting a furry tag because they can’t be bothered to click it first to see what it’s about. Hilarious.

It’s kind of like when that restaurant thought they were trending after a tragedy occurred in a town with the same name or when a pizza joint used the domestic abuse tag “why I stayed” to say “because they had pizza.”

It takes two seconds to click on the tag to see what it’s about, seriously.
