Solitude In E Minor refers to a scene from SpongeBob SquarePants in which Squidward Tentacles begins to play a song, "Solitude in E Minor", for Patrick Star on the clarinet, which Patrick promptly falls asleep to. The scene became an exploitable remix template, as YouTubers edited the track to feature other songs.

Origin

On August 7th, 1999, season one, episode 4a of SpongeBob SquarePants. titled "Naughty Nautical Neighbors," premiered in the US.[1] In the episode, Squidward begins to play "Solitude In E Minor" for Patrick. Not long after he begins, Patrick suddenly falls asleep. On April 1st, 2011, YouTube[2] user SpongebobUnedited uploaded the scene. It received more than 6.8 million views in 11 years (shown below).

Spread

The scene received many edits and remixes over the following decade. For example, on October 3rd, 2012, YouTube[3] user katie wolfie uploaded the earliest known edit. The video received 19,000 views in 10 years (shown below, left). On April 3rd, 2018, YouTube[4] user Eric V. On uploaded both a clarinet and piano version. The video received 17,000 views in four years (shown below, right).

On February 10th, 2018, YouTube[5] user LFG uploaded an edit titled "Solitude In E Minor But It's Actually In E Minor." The video received more than 1 million views in four years (shown below, left). On April 22nd, 2018, YouTube[6] user prod. CRXSTIAN uploaded an edit where Patrick doesn't sleep when Squidward playing the music. The video received more than 3.1 million views in four years (shown below, right).
